Stronger students, stronger communities.
Hamilton votes Monday, October 26, 2026
Your ballot has three races: Mayor, Councillor and School Trustee. Don’t skip the last one.
In Ward 1, vote Cameron Prosic for HWDSB public school trustee.
until polls open on Election Day, Monday, October 26

I’m Cameron, and I wish to be your Ward 1 HWDSB Trustee. I served as a student trustee in 2018 to 2020 while attending Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary School. The role of trustee is not widely known, but has a significant impact on students within the public education system. I hope to increase board cohesion, engage parents with their child’s education, and strategically make policy and budget decisions with one thing in mind: how will this help our students, and how will we know?
Show your support: get a lawn sign
Many voters don’t realize there’s a school trustee race until they’re holding the ballot. A sign on your lawn reminds your neighbours that the race exists, and who to vote for.
Trustees, explained
Not sure what a school trustee does? You’re not alone.
Trustees are the elected board that governs Hamilton’s public schools. Together, they decide:
The budget
How the board spends its money, from classroom and special education supports to school buildings.
The direction
The board’s policies and multi-year plan, which guide every public school in the city.
Who leads
They hire and oversee the Director of Education, who runs the board day to day.
Your voice
Each trustee carries their ward’s concerns to the board table, and reports back.
Ontario is rethinking how school boards are governed. That’s an opportunity: by electing trustees who work together, manage money responsibly and stay accountable, Hamilton can show what a strong local voice looks like.

Psst… there’s a story behind this photo. Click here.
This is HWDSB’s Audit Committee. I sat in as a student trustee. Much of its work happens in camera, so few people ever see it, but it’s where the board takes a hard look at its finances, controls and risks. Seeing that work up close shaped two of my biggest priorities: budgeting responsibly, and making the most of board-owned sites for our students and our community.
What I’ll focus on
Cameron’s Priorities
School boards face a lot of noise. Clear goals cut through it, and every one of mine comes back to the same question: how will this help our students, and how will we measure it?
Focus on Students
Any decision the board makes should be backed by a precise plan on how it will positively impact students in our schools, and should be evaluated with data afterwards.
Parent Involvement and Voice
Parents should be treated as a part of a student’s educational journey and have ample opportunity for engagement within their child’s school. School councils, volunteering, and constant communication need to be an imperative priority of the board.
Transparency & Cohesion
Trustees need to work as a board and share common goals – without the board working as a team, trustees can accomplish nothing. We need to work alongside fellow trustees and create two-way communication channels with those we serve.
Presence in the Community
You can’t learn the impacts of your decisions behind a table. I plan to be present in school communities, engaging school councils and visiting Ward 1 schools and their staff to learn how we can improve the experience and outcomes for our students.
Why Cameron
Experience that fits the job
I’ve seen from the inside how public organizations like school boards and universities really run. That’s why I know clear goals and careful budgets reach kids on the ground.
